P5 at Majors! (Le Mans 24hrs)

Team Yearone Finishes P5 in Class in Top Split at Majors.

Our drivers, Yuki Furuya, Rhys Saunders, Selim Senturk, Sebahattin Atalar and Barry Arends, competed in the Majors 24 hours of Le Mans on June 4-5. It was a massive achievement for the team as we returned to the top level of sim racing on iRacing.

Before the event started, our drivers had to qualify for which split they would compete. With a combined time averaging, the boys set a time of 3:46.7 landed them in the first split. As the day of the 24hrs was upon the team, the final qualifying to set the grid set the team in 13th, but in endurance, no one remembers where you qualify, only where you finish.

As the race carried into the night, the drivers moved slowly into the leading pack, it was becoming evident that our team could be on for a podium, but there was no time to think ahead, only to think about the next move they were going to make. And as the sun rose over the horizon, and all of the competitors were scared, bruised or crashed out, our drivers had kept our car clean as if it had come off the showroom floor. At a last, Le Mans does not play favourites, as the closing hours were at the end a penalty would crush any hopes of a podium finish. As much as the drivers were distraught about not being on the top steps, it is a welcome return for a team that deserved its reward of finishing in the top 5. The team is now hard at work preparing for the next 24hr race at Spa, hoping to finish better next time.
